What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to site operators about how the site is being used.
This policy covers cookies and similar tracking technologies (including local storage, pixel tags, and web beacons) used across MetricBase properties:
- metricbase.org — the root portal and Journal
- energy.metricbase.org — Energy Markets vertical
- chain.metricbase.org — Crypto & Technology vertical
- saham.metricbase.org — Pasar Saham Indonesia vertical
- subs.metricbase.org — newsletter subscription
This Cookie Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides broader context about how we handle personal data.
Cookies we use
We use cookies in three categories: Essential (required for basic site function), Analytics (performance and usage measurement), and Advertising (served by Google AdSense, subject to your consent). The full inventory is listed in Sections 3–5.
| Category | Examples | Consent required | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Cookie consent preference, Blogger session | No — strictly necessary | Session or up to 1 year |
| Analytics | Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) | Yes — on consent banner accept | Up to 2 years |
| Advertising | Google AdSense (IDE, ANID) | Yes — on consent banner accept | Up to 13 months |
Essential cookies
Essential cookies are necessary for the site to function. They do not identify you personally and cannot be switched off without breaking core site features. We do not require consent to set these cookies.
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
mb_cookie_consent |
metricbase.org | Stores your cookie consent decision so the banner is not shown on every page visit. | 365 days |
| Blogger session cookies | blogger.com / Google | Required by the Blogger platform to serve pages on energy, chain, and saham subdomains. | Session |
| GitHub Pages cache headers | github.io / Fastly CDN | CDN edge cache validation for static assets on metricbase.org. No personal data stored. | Session |
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with our properties — which articles get read, what traffic sources drive visits, and where people leave. This data is aggregated and used solely to improve editorial content and site performance.
Analytics cookies are only set after you accept the cookie consent banner. If you decline or close the banner without accepting, no analytics cookies will be placed.
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. | 2 years |
_gid |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes users within a shorter session window. Used to throttle request rates. | 24 hours |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics 4 | Maintains session state for GA4 measurement ID(s) associated with MetricBase properties. | 2 years |
Google Analytics data is processed under Google's privacy infrastructure. IP addresses are anonymized by default in GA4. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
Advertising cookies
MetricBase has applied for Google AdSense to display advertisements on our properties. If approved, Google AdSense will place advertising cookies to serve relevant ads and measure their performance.
Advertising cookies are only active after you accept the cookie consent banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies in your browser or using the controls in Section 7.
Advertising cookies may be used to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant ads on other sites. We do not control the data Google processes for ad personalization purposes. Refer to Google's Advertising Policy for full details.
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
IDE |
Google DoubleClick | Used by Google DoubleClick to register and report user actions after seeing or clicking an ad. | 13 months |
ANID |
Used for ad targeting based on your browsing history and preferences across the Google network. | 13 months | |
NID |
Stores preferences and other information for Google services, used to tailor ads. | 6 months |
Third-party cookies
Some pages on MetricBase properties embed content or tools from third-party services. These services may set their own cookies, which are governed by their respective privacy policies. Third-party cookies we are aware of include:
- Google Fonts — fonts loaded from Google's CDN. Google may log your IP address for CDN routing purposes.
- Blogger / Google — subdomains are hosted on Google's Blogger platform. Blogger may set session and preference cookies.
- Kit.com / subs.metricbase.org — the newsletter subscription form may set cookies related to form validation and email delivery preferences.
- Social media embeds — if we embed a post from X (Twitter), Instagram, or TikTok, those platforms may set tracking cookies when the embed loads.
We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these third-party services for full details on their data practices.
Managing cookies
7.1 — Cookie consent banner
When you first visit metricbase.org, a cookie consent banner is displayed. You can:
- Accept all cookies — enables essential, analytics, and advertising cookies
- Decline / close — only essential cookies will be set
Your choice is saved for 365 days. You can reset it by clearing your browser cookies for metricbase.org.
7.2 — Browser cookie controls
Every major browser allows you to view, manage, block, or delete cookies. Links to instructions for the most common browsers:
- Google Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies
- Mozilla Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies
- Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Note: blocking all cookies will prevent certain features (including analytics and ads) but should not break core content on most MetricBase pages.
7.3 — Google Analytics opt-out
To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
7.4 — Google ad personalization
To control how Google uses your data for ad personalization, visit My Ad Center. You can opt out of interest-based advertising while still seeing non-personalized ads.
Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. Currently there is no universally agreed-upon standard for how websites must respond to DNT signals. MetricBase does not alter cookie behavior based on DNT signals at this time. We will revisit this position if a binding standard is adopted.
For effective opt-out, we recommend using the browser controls and opt-out tools described in Section 7.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our technology stack changes, as third-party services change their cookie use, or as regulatory requirements evolve. When we make significant changes we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document
- Where appropriate, re-prompt consent via the cookie banner
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our properties after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
